Flower Resource Guide
There are many different options when choosing what type of sympathy flower arrangement to send to a memorial or funeral service. Knowing a little bit about the choices available will help you find the most suitable arrangement to express your condolences.
Standing Flower Sprays: Standing sprays are displayed on an easel and are typically displayed in a prominent position near the casket. They are typically sent for directly to the funeral home, mortuary, or church for the service.
Flower Wreaths, Hearts, and Crosses: These types of arrangements are displayed on an easel and are usually displayed in a prominent position to give maximum presentation. They are sent directly to the funeral home, mortuary or church for the service. A standing flower cross or standing flower heart is called so because they are designed in that shape. Flower wreaths are typically circular and bring a special meaning to the service as the circular shape of the wreath is the symbol for eternal life.
Casket Sprays: Casket sprays are placed directly on top of the casket, and come in a variety of sizes; full casket and half casket are the most common. Full casket sprays are suitable for closed casket services, and half caskets sprays are used for open casket services (the arrangement is placed over the closed portion of the casket). These types of flower arrangements are typically sent by the direct family members of the deceased.
Funeral Basket: Funeral baskets are appropriate for delivery directly to the funeral home, mortuary, or the church. They are displayed in decorative baskets or containers and make a lovely presentation.
Dish Gardens or Plants: Dish gardens are displayed in decorative baskets or containers and are comprised of an assortment of plants, either green, blooming or a combination of both. Green or blooming plants can also be individually used as a gesture of sympathy, and are typically sent in a basket. Both dish gardens and plants are suitable to be sent directly to the service or to the family's home. They are also a suitable option to send to an office as a condolence gift.
